Frequently Asked Questions
I get numerous questions emailed to me from visitors to the site each month so I have decided to compile them into this FAQ page. -Lt. Galati

Q: Can I listen to the LFD on my scanner?
A: The short answer is yes, but only if you have the right information and the right scanner. The LFD operates on an Erikson EDACS trunked radio system with three towers. Any truck-tracking scanner that is able to track an EDACS system will work as long as you enter the frequencies in the exact order in which they are listed. The LFD's radio system was rebanded in the Spring of 2007 and I have yet to find a proper list of the new frequencies. If you have an updated and correct list, please email it to me!

Q: Where can I buy an LFD T-Shirt?
A: Contact LFD Station #1 at 859-231-5641 and ask to speak with the FOF representative for that day's shift. Tell them you would like to buy a shirt and they will let you know what off-duty shirts they currently have available and what they cost.

Q: Do you want to trade patches with me?
A: I personally don't collect patches and currenly don't know of anyone on the LFD that trades patches. If you are an LFD member that would like to have patch-trading emails forwarded to you, send me an email and I will create a list.

Q: Can I send you pictures I have taken of the LFD for you to post?
A: YES! If you have pictures of the LFD in action, please email them to me for possible posting on this website. You will be given credit for the use of your photos but I don't pay for the use of photos.

Q: Can I volunteer for the Lexington Fire Department?
A: No, the LFD is an all-paid fire department. However, there is a ladies auxillary that would probably like some more help.

Q: How can I get a job with the Lexington Fire Department?
A: Head down to City Hall at 200 East Main Street in Lexington and make your way to the employment office. Fill out a "position interest form" for the fire department. The next time the LFD is offering a test for the position of recruit firefighter, they will contact you.

Q: Can you send a fire truck to visit my child's school?
A: Officials from the school can call 859-231-5600 and ask for the Fire Prevention Bureau. The members of the LFD Fire Prevention Bureau and Community Services Bureau offer classes and fire prevention activities for children and adults of all ages including a new fire safety house, school programs, and, of course, fire truck visits.

Q: What happened to the Rescue Monkey?
A: I honestly don't know (NO it wasn't me) and I fear the worst. It has been about a year since anyone heard from the Rescue Monkey. What a true loss for everyone.

Q: Why isn't there any advertising on this site? Who pays for this stuff?
A: My intention in starting this site was to provide a positive way for the citizens of Lexington to view the actions of their fire department and to give some recognition to the hard work that members of the LFD perform every day. The first year that this site was in existance I started it as a free site with advertisments. Within two days the volume of visits exceeded the limit for a free site and I had to upgrade to a paid site which eliminated the ads. I paid for the first year and generous donations received from fans of the site and members of the LFD paid for the second year. In December, I will start asking for donations for year number three.
